Rayan Cherki, a French midfield player, has agreed to join Manchester City from Lyon in preparation for the Club World Cup in the United States.

L’Équipe and The Athletic claim that City’s first offer of €22.5 million was turned down before they made a successful second proposal of almost €40 million.

It is anticipated that the 20-year-old France international will sign a deal that would last until 2030.

After Kevin De Bruyne’s injury setback, City expedited the move because they see Cherki as a long-term option with the potential to have an immediate effect.

The playmaker is anticipated to depart with the team this week and may make an appearance as early as June 18 in City’s Club World Cup opening matchup against Wydad AC, the Moroccan champions.
